This may explain how Mr. Wade was permitted to work on a cruise ship, notwithstanding the fact that he had been arrested in Detroit for sexually molesting an 11 year-old boy according to a verified complaint filed in the criminal case filed against Mr. Wade. It appears that the cruise line, excursion resort and local police are all disputing some of the facts surrounding the crime. Carnival disputes that this crime occurred during a cruise-sponsored excursion (although the cruise line faces the same legal exposure for not warning its guests of the heightened danger of rape in the Bahamas regardless of whether the excursion was sponsored or a private venture). Pirate’s Cove claims that the women “refused to be transported to the hospital” and the local police were quoted in the Bahamian press stating that the women allegedly declined emergency medical treatment. However, the women informed U.S. media outlets that they were informed that if they went to the local hospital, their return to the cruise ship would not be guaranteed and they were both concerned that they were not traveling with passports. The medical team on the Carnival cruise ship eventually examined the two victims and performed testing which revealed the presence of drugs and the absence of alcohol in the women.
Twenty-Year Old Passenger Goes Overboard From the Liberty of the Seas Cruise Ship

The two crew members discussed travelling to sexually abuse children as young as five years of age. Judge Aileen Cannon, of the federal district court in Fort Pierce, Florida, sentenced Fernandes last week to 188 months (over 15 and1/2 years) in prison. A press release by the DOJ sets forth the basic facts of the crimes committed by Fernandes. Activists and lawmakers have long alleged that cruise ship operators downplay onboard crimes and that investigations of them are muddied by questions of jurisdictions on international waters. The pandemic is now demonstrating how other legal constraints, and jurisdictional issues that seem to favor the cruise industry, are further complicating civil disputes over COVID-19 cases on cruise ships. The motto of this blog is “everything cruise lines don’t want you to know.” Like cruise lines overworking and underpaying crew members while avoiding taxes and U.S. wage and labor laws.

Shortly after the hailing, a crew member of the vessel reported that they heard suspected gun shots.” (The incident reportedly occurred at night). The lawsuit says Lucio Gonzalez’s death was the direct result of his exposure to the virus on the ship and the cruise line’s failure to take effective measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Legal experts say these requirements put passengers who live a long distance from the courthouse where they must file at a disadvantage. Such bureaucratic hurdles also discourage cruise passengers from taking on a cruise company. For an elderly cruise passenger, such as Gonzalez, family members can typically expect to collect funeral and burial costs and any financial support the deceased would have contributed, legal experts say. Cases involving a death on a ship are governed by the Death on the High Seas Act, a 1920 law that limits damages collected by the family of a passenger who died because of negligence to financial losses only — not for pain and suffering, according to legal experts.

Crystal Cruises Risked Crew Member Lives By Sailing Crystal Symphony Through Strait of Bab el-Mandeb into the Red Sea
Two weeks ago, we reported that a Homeland Security task force arrested Disney crew member Alvin Gonzalez, age 49, on the Disney Dream cruise ship, after they located a video on his cell phone which showed two children having sex. If the ship is not equipped with CCTV cameras which are actively monitored, the ship will continue to sail on until a family member on the ship or other traveling companion reports the person missing. The ship would then perform a cabin-by-cabin search on the ship for the person as well as manually look through CCTV images to see if they can locate the missing person and determine whether the person actually went overboard. Announcements will be made for the passenger to report to the guest relations desk. Ten days ago when the CDC last announced the total of cruise ship COVID-19 cases (when it warned that the public should not travel by cruise ship even if vaccinated) the count was a little over 5,000 cases. If and when the CDC next announces the number of COVID-19 cases on cruise ship, it will likely be over 25,000.

Why Are Crimes on Cruise Ships No Longer Being Disclosed to the U.S. Public?.

Crime
The purpose of the public disclosure of mandatory reporting of sexual assaults, assaults with serious bodily injuries, missing U.S. nationals and deaths on cruise ships is to educate and warn the traveling public of dangers on cruise ships. The Department of Justice finally published the number of crimes alleged on cruise ships for 2023 after failing to do so all of last year. We reported several times last year on the failure to reveal the number of crimes, particularly sexual assaults which continue to be the most prevalent crimes on cruise ships. Arriving at port without a cruise member on a ship which refuses to install technology which would instantly notify it when someone goes overboard is not only embarrassing but borders on criminal indifference in my view. We have posted many articles about Carnival Cruise Line’s significant sexual assault rate which is higher on a per capita basis than twenty-seven of the fifty states in the U.S.
Silver Nova Experiences Gastrointestinal Outbreak as the Silversea Cruises’ Luxury Cruise Ship Sails to Fort Lauderdale
On December 30, 2023, a passenger went overboard from the MSC Preziosa after the MSC cruise ship left the port of Santos heading to New Year’s Eve festivities in Rio de Janeiro. Royal Caribbean recently told USA TODAY that infected crew are quickly returned from their floating quarantine ships to work as soon as they test negative. The majority of the infected crew members on the Vision of the Seas are in fact lardely symptomatic (sore throats, headaches, fever, and fatigue are the most common complaints) and there are some ship employees with shortness of breath and other serious symptoms. There is a paucity of ship doctors (just two) responsible for around 1,500 crew members on this floating walk-in clinic. There are no frontline therapies available, such as monoclonal antibiodies, available or adequate oxygen supplies, and certainly no ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines on these floating clinics.
A shout out to the brave crew members and the conscientous guests who have provided the above information. Thanks to them we now know what is actually happening at sea on these largely lawless cruise ships. With the Omicron varient spreading throughout the U.S., there is every certainty that this highly contagious COVID-19 varient will cause havoc on cruise ships leaving ports in Florida and other U.S. states. Omicron found its way onto NCL and Royal Caribbean cruise ships over two weeks ago.
Two Guests From the Carnival Elation Report Being Drugged and Raped During Excursion in the Bahamas
The truth of the matter is that Royal Caribbean had a total of more guests who sailed throughout 2023 (6 million) on its ships than Carnival Cruise Line which sailed 5.5 million guests last year. Although the CVSSA requires the reporting of crimes which occur only when the cruise ship calls on a U.S. port, both Carnival and Royal Caribbean report crimes which are alleged to occur during cruises which do not call on U.S. ports. RWS reportedly does not perform background checks into sexual misconduct of the performers who they hire to work on cruise ships. It does not appear that HAL conduct any type of background check on dancers/performers at all.
Passenger Arrested on Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas for Lewd and Lascivious Conduct in Cruise Ship Sauna
I remember the first article which I wrote a decade ago which was read by less than 100 people. I owe the success of this blog to the readers that have supported me over these many years. @RoyalCaribbean @RoyalCaribPR I’m aboard Symphony of the Seas and a crew member has confidentially told me there’s 36 COVID cases on this ship right now. I spoke to medical staff and they said their facility was overwhelmed and they only had 1 physician and 2 nurses. Faced with the extreme financial pressures created by crippling debt and the ongoing difficulties presented by COVID-19, the cruise industry has decided to try and improve its bottom line by essentially abandoning its COVID-19 vaccine and testing protocols and inviting unvaxxed customers aboard. A twenty-three (23) year-old man from Scotland went overboard from the MSC Euribia last week.
Some cruise fans and supposed experts are essentially asking the public, who are naturally aghast at cruise ships belching out incredible amounts of smoke, not to believe their own eyes. Or they falsely suggest that what the public is seeing it just due to the vapors which will will somehow magically disappear. On February 4, 2024, a passenger fell off the MSC Bellissima cruise ship traveling from Taiwan to Okinawa. According to the Taiwan News, the passenger was located, pulled from the water and then rushed to a hospital, where he was reported to be in good condition following medical treatment. It is now past the point of debating whether the cruise industry can safely cruise. Over the last ten days, we reported that the Jewel of the Seas had 15 infected crew members shortly after Christmas, then 25 infected crew members, then 50 infected crew, then 80, then 109 as of yesterday.
The DOT has no real interest in the issue of crime and is, at best, a federal agency tasked only with the administrative duty (and thankless task) of posting the crime data provided by an industry which does not want the truth disclosed in the first place. Since January 1, 2010, the cruise crime database has been available for review by the public who have had the benefit of learning the extent of the danger of crime on cruise ships. The media has been able to report on the allegations and highlight trends which have developed over the years.
Unless I am missing something, there have been no accounts I have seen from other passengers of this latest overboard via Twitter or Facebook. A 72-year-old U.S. passenger died yesterday after falling from a passenger ship into the Grand Harbour in Valletta, Malta, according to the local press in Malta. There appears to be a direct correlation between excessive alcohol and violence and violence against women on Carnival ships. Don’t expect Carnival to clamp down on selling excessive booze to its guests anytime soon, given the fact that has over $30,000,000,000 (billion) of long term debt.
There are forty cruise ships leaving from U.S. ports with COVID-19 aboard, including nineteen cruise ships operated and owned by Royal Caribbean. As the CDC oversight seems likely to soon fade away, perhaps it does not really matter. To me, it seems that the cruise industry resembles a car which limped along with deflated tires for far too long, and is now riding on its rims. Any family foolish enough at this point to trust the largely dishonest cruise lines and ignore the CDC’s warning not to cruise may be in for a rude wakening when they climb aboard a cruise ship now. Some of the cruise ships like the Jewel, which will suspend cruises tomorrow, will be used to quarantine infected crew members because there is simply not enough room on the two quarantine ships to accommodate additional crew members. These two ships are already stuffed with infected crew members who usually are required to share cabins in the crew quarters without balconies.
The crew will often deploy rescue lifecraft and utilize spotlights to search for the overboard person. The captain usually makes announcements that the ship is involved in looking for an overboard guest. Meanwhile, several publications reported that guests on the NCL ship had no idea that a single passenger or crew members on the ship had tested positive including the Omicron varient. NCL falsely claimed that the outbreak intially involved only a “handful” of cases when the actual count is now at least twenty infected guests and crew members.
